With the ship’s reactor pumping out power at it’s highest capacity to enable flight and further mitigate the ice buildup from the planet’s oppressive weather, status alarms started to light up on Royd’s display screens. The ship was quite old and such stresses made her aging condition even worse. Luckily though nothing critical blew out during the climb to orbit and the ship pulled into a low orbit about the planet while the rest of the ice formations on it’s hull slowly vaporized.

Looking over the increasingly troubling diagnostics, Royd was completely oblivious to Sedric’s condition in the cargo hold. Had he known how badly off the young man was he would have dispatched a contingent of service droids to carry him up to the lounge or better yet to a stateroom and thus a warm bath. At the moment though he was too busy trying to pin down exactly how badly the ship had been damaged by the ice and their emergency climb to orbit.

Realizing the service droids were going to have their hands full for at least a day tracking down every blown circuit and damaged sensor palette, Royd decided the best course of action would be to head back to Earth. He could land while the planet still had time and make repairs, then he could aid the others in their search once more.

“Plot a course back to Earth please, we need to set down somewhere relatively safe and make repairs.” Royd instructed the computer, to which the machine replied with a hushed sequence of whispers.
“No I do not want to jump to Icer. The ship has suffered ice related damage and I don’t want to go somewhere else that could cause the same problem while we’re still trying to fix it. Now plot a course for Earth.” Royd replied somewhat unhappy with the computer second guessing him.

Setting a general heading for Earth on his own, Royd fired the main engines to take them away from the planet so they could execute the FTL jump without interference. Once the ship was cruising along and with the computer now plotting the jump coordinates, Royd reactivated his holographic avatar. The flickering blue tinted image appeared in the lounge but surprisingly no one was there.

Thinking that Sedric would surely head back up to the comfortable chamber, Royd reasoned something must be wrong and immediately started flipping through the various internal camera feeds on his monitors. After a few moments he located the man laying on the floor of the cargo bay. Quickly switching his hologram’s location to the cargo hold, he knelt down over the man and tried to see if he was still breathing.

After a few moments of moving about the man’s inert form, Royd was finally able to see that he was still alive. It would have been easier had he been there in person but it was faster to send the hologram. Seeing however as the young man was not in good condition at all Royd knew he had to do something. Terminating his hologram, he took up his cane and rose from his bowl shaped bed. Making his way as quickly as he could through the passage to the lounge and then through the corridors to the transport tube, Royd soon arrived in the cargo hold.

Meanwhile the computer had finished plotting the jump back to Earth and knowing Royd would want to proceed immediately, started to charge the jump drives. After a few minutes when sufficient power and built up, the FTL drive pods extended from the sides of the ship and flashed with their usual brilliance. Since this jump was of a longer distance, the ship did not transit instantaneously but rather cruised more slowly and thus more efficiently through space.

With the ship in flight and no longer under the influence of a planetary gravitational field, the onboard gravity was more forgiving on Royd’s weakened body. However even with the gravity he was used to he still could not hope to carry the larger man to the transport tube. So rather then baring the weight himself he came up with a better idea.
“Computer, terminate gravity in the cargo bay and the transport tube please.” he requested. Once the gravity plating disengaged and both he and Sedric started to float free of the floor, Royd called upon his telekinetic power to grab hold of the man’s space suit and guide him into the elevator. Excellent at maneuvering in zero G himself, Royd pushed off with expert precision and glided into the lift right behind Sedric.

Once inside he selected the residential deck braced himself before the lift started to move. As it ascended towards the residential section, Royd issued further instructions.
“Reactivate gravity in the cargo hold and shut it down in the corridors on the residential deck as well as living quarters A.” he requested. The computer quickly fulfilled his requests and when the transport tube arrived on the residential deck, Royd had little difficulty moving Sedric’s unconscious form to the suite. Getting him out of the space suit without the young man’s help however was a more difficult task but eventually he managed to get Sedric mostly undressed and maneuvered him into the tub where he had the gravity reactivated and started to run warm water.
Meanwhile the Nightflyer completed it’s trek and emerged from FTL flight in orbit of Earth. The ship flashed into being with a blight white burst of light and then glided gracefully into a circular holding pattern about the blue planet while Royd waited for Sedric to wake.

After what felt to be quite a long time, Royd started to get worried that the young man in his care might need better attention then he was capable of rendering. Grasping his cane firmly, he stood up and headed out of the living quarters and into the corridor.
“Land the ship.” he called out to the computer. “Put down in the same location as last time and begin any necessary repairs. Upon landing I will have to go and find a physician for the man in suit A. If he needs anything send a service droid to assist him please.” Royd continued as he made his way to the transport tube.

Talia would sigh as the ship took off from Earth, she had to admit she felt a bit bad about leaveing the planet so suddenly but really there was nothing left there for her. Meria and Zeta were gone and they had been all she'd had there, as well it just woulden't feel right staying in Hercule City, not without Meria. "How long do you think it will be before we get to Odon?" She would ask, not exactualy sure of how fast this ship could move.

“Well that actually depends mostly on where it is and how long it takes the computer to plot the course. At the very most it shouldn’t take more then a day or two, but odds are it will be less then that.” Royd replied and turned his attention to the computer.
“Plot course for the planet Odon please. Spin up the FTL drives and inform me when we’re ready to jump.” Royd instructed the computer.

Talia was a bit surprised when Royd said that the trip could take a day or even more. She hadn't really realized just how large the distance was between planets though she'd never really gotten a chance to guage it on her unwilling trip all over it. "Alright.. Hey Royd. Do you mind if I ask you a personal question?" Talia would ask, as the question in mind had begun to bug her slightly since she'd managed to calm down from the inital shock of Meria's death.

As the computer referenced the name it had been given, the ship continued to sail higher above the blue green planet bellow. Now in orbit, the ceiling changed it’s display to a view of the planet, making it look as though the ship had rolled to face it’s top down.
Not seeing anything wrong with answering such a question Royd nodded and replied in kind. “Of course, I don’t think I have anything to hide.”

"What do you think happens to us when we die?" Talia would ask, for the most aprt she didn't much care about what would happen when SHE died, more so she was simply asking in hopes of gaining some insight into what might be going on for Meria. Then again Meria wasn't exactly like most people so there was no guarentee the same would hold true for her regardless of Royds opinion.

Royd raised an eyebrow at the question. It was something that he had never considered very seriously, both because the computer had always kept him safe and that one day he too would undergo the same procedure that granted his grandfather immortality. Still the question remained and he had to answer to the best of his ability.
“I’m… not exactly sure. The computer told me about all sorts of religions that believe all sorts of things. I have never really thought about it though. I suppose though, the energy in the brain has to go somewhere. Where it goes is beyond me though.” Royd replied at length.
Meanwhile the computer finished plotting the course to Odon and the jump drive was nearly charged. Being somewhat further away then the drive could manage in an instant jump, the computer included that in it’s whispered report to the dark haired young man.

Ace flickered into view on the ship, dropping to one knee. Longer teleportations were still taxing on his mind, and this wasn't as long as some, but still, it was long enough. He looked around for a moment, as if confirming he had made it, before slowly standing up.

“Thank you, initiate jump when ready.” Royd replied to the computer. Looking up from his ponderings though he noticed the pale man named Ace had teleported himself onboard. Mentally cursing that even Earth orbit wasn’t safe from chaos, Royd grabbed his cane and stood up, his actions easier now that the ship was generating it’s own, reduced gravity.
“Ace? Is there something I can do for you?” he asked.
Meanwhile the ship completed charging the FTL drive and initiated the jump into superluminal flight. The FTL drive pods extended and after a few moments, flashed with their usual brilliance, consuming the ship in a burst of light.

Ace turned tto face Royd, and it should have been immediately obvious something was wrong, even if what he was about to say didn't give it away. His expression was down and somber, and his face was still somewhat tearstained.
"Royd... I'm sorry for just appearing out of nowhere like this, but..." He took a deep breath. "We went to this planet while searching for the Dragonballs, and when we left... Something happened... Both myself and Reiji started getting really sick, and then depressed... It's terrible..." He paused here, and shook his head.
"Reiji's already dead... He cut his own throat... I don't want to stay alone, but I need to continue searching for the Dragonballs... And it seems like you're the only person I might be able to count on to help..."

“I… I don’t know what to say. This is unbelievable.” Royd replied as he stepped away from the couch and approached Ace. Were the medical facilities of the ship in proper order he would have offered to analyze Ace’s condition but the medical bay had been in disrepair for some time now, one of the reasons the computer was not able to properly care for Royd’s mother when she fell ill.
“I would be glad to help in any way I can. How many of these balls have you collected so far?” he asked, hoping to get an idea of how much they would have to do.
Meanwhile after a few minutes of superluminal flight, the massive hull of the Nightflyer flashed back into being and glided through the void, approaching Odon. The image on the ceiling changed once again, showing a forward view as the ship approached the planet.

Ace actually smiled in spite of how he felt. "Royd...thank you..." he said after a moment. "Counting the one we found on that frozen planet, which is unfortunately misplaced...four. I have three with me now, and I suspect the lost one is on Namek somewhere."
"There's three left, and according to the last time I checked the radar Reiji had, one of them should be decently close to here, as far as planetary distances go, but I can't be positive." He sighed and turned away, clenching his arms in some kind of self-hug. I just hope I can get through this...

“Mmmm, well I was just taking Talia here back to her home world.” Royd replied, gesturing to the resting young woman on one of the other couches. “I’m glad to hear you have most of them, although the fact that one is missing is troubling. As for the one near here though, I’m going to need a planet name or coordinates again. We could go system hopping but it could take months to find the right one. Having one of those radars would certainly help, you didn’t happen to bring one did you?”

Ace let out a deep sigh and dropped his arms to his sides, turning back to face Royd before he spoke again. "Yeah, I have one..." he said, reaching into his pocket and pulling out the capsule which held Reiji's ship. "It's in Reiji's ship, in here. Just a minute..." He flickered out of sight again, reappearing in the cargo hold, where he would decapsulize the ship, retrieve the Universal Radar from it, recapsulize it, and then teleport back. "Right...coordinates..." He pressed the button to activate the radar and had a blank expression.
"I...forgot I can't read spatial coordinates..." he mumbled.

“Not a problem.” Royd replied and held out his free hand to take the radar after watching Ace pop off somewhere and return. The computer chimed in with a it’s usual eerie series of whispers, informing Royd that they were in orbit as that the search of the database had been completed, the results waiting to be examined.
“While I input the coordinates I can also off you’re a drink or something to eat if you like. The kitchen has a wide array of teas, there are a few juice and cola selections as well.” Royd stated, hoping he might help Ace deal with the affects of the strange and one would say, horrible world he’d visited.

Ace smiled, shrugging in a rather helpless fashion as he handed Royd the radar. It was rather uncomfortable for him to not be able to do something so simple; he had seen children who could read spatial coordinates! But, there was little point obsessing over that now...
Upon hearing Royd's offer, he shook his head. "Thank you, Royd...but, no thanks... I'd rather not risk it just yet... I'm still not feeling entirely whole after my last bout with the sickness before the depression set it... I'd rather not aggrivate it if it's still there." He smiled. "But, again, thank you."

“Mmm, well the offer stands when and if it will help.” Royd replied and accepted the scanning device. Looking over it’s display, the young man read off the coordinates shown and then looked up at the artificial sky.
“Computer, plot a course to a system at the following coordinates, one hundred thirty nine point two degrees radial, fourteen point six degrees axial, range, four hundred and sixty seven light-years relative. Recharge the jump drive and execute when ready.” he instructed the computer and then handed the radar back to Ace.

Ace nodded. "Thank you again," he said, taking the radar back as it was handed to him and pocketing it. He was glad to have help, yes. But the more weighing reason on his mind at the moment, was that he wouldn't have to go searching by himself...if he did, he could already tell it would be just a matter of time before he would follow Reiji.
And that would doom the Earth for certain.

“Again you are more then welcome.” Royd responded and made his way up out of the sunken couch area to the kitchen. It would take the ship a while to build up energy for another jump so there was time to make some tea, even if only for himself. Putting the kettle on, Royd busied himself briefly and then turned back to the rest of the lounge.

As Royd went to the kitchen, Ace slowly made his way down into said sunken couch area, sitting down on one of the aforementioned couches. As he sat there, he would produce a knife seemingly from nowhere. And he would just look at it, turning it over in his hands for a while, before absently running the blade over his fingers, drawing blood in the process.
Letting out a deep sigh, he slowly took the knife handle into hand, then juststared at the blade of it.
