Deep in the inky black void of space, the mammoth hull of the Nightflyer cruised silently along. Aside from the hum of the engines and wiring of the atmospheric recycling systems, the ship was quiet. Royd had been plotting the course to Earth for several days now, finally convincing the computer that he had mastered astro-navigation. He would have had the course plotted much earlier if it weren’t for the fact that the ship had drifted so far from a navigational beacon that it’s position had to be determined the old fashioned way, by looking at the stars.

Awakening in his palatial quarters amongst a pile of gold tinted silken pillows, Royd became aware of his surroundings once more and sat up. Looking to the wall of computer monitors that dominated one of the sides of his room, the young man checked the status of the ship. As always the giant craft was in working order, although recently there had been some shifts in the maintenance cycles to deal with the aging vessel.

Speaking aloud, Royd addressed the computer.
“Lights to daytime mode please.” he stated and waited while the illumination in the chamber brightened to approximate that of Earth daylight.
“Thank you.” he added to the computer and reached out to take hold of his cane. Rising from his circular, almost bowl shaped bed, Royd made his way to his wardrobe and proceeded to dress. While he could have requested gravity be reduced to make it easier he thought it best to try and adapt as best as possible to the heavier conditions he would experience when he finally did arrive on Earth.

Once he had managed to get into his jump suit and then the tight fitting black space suit over that, Royd headed out of his quarters through a darkened passage that led to a hidden sliding wall. He had never known why the doorway was constructed in a hidden fashion but neither had he ever questioned it, it simply was. Passing through the doorway into the grand lounge, the young man glanced up at the artificial sky that was being displayed on the ceiling and issued another order to the computer.
“External view please.” he stated and made his way across the lounge to the attached kitchen while the image above him flickered for several moments before switching to one of the blackness of space and the whit pinpricks that dotted it.

After making himself breakfast, sat and ate while the computer crunched the final numbers needed to refine their course back to Earth. Finishing his meal quickly, the young man left the dishes for one of the service droids to handle. In the mean time his way to the front end of the lounge where there stood a dominatingly large mirror. Another of the ship’s secret entrances, the mirror was in fact the doorway to the flight deck. As he approached the reflective portal, it slid silently up into a crevice in the ceiling, allowing him passage. Walking through another darkened passageway flanked on both sides by rows of clicking and humming computers, the only light in fact coming from a row of computer monitors ahead and the many red and orange indicators lights on the computers.

Stepping into the semicircular flight deck, Royd took a seat in the control chair, in fact the only chair in the room and leaned his cane up against the wrap around control console. Tapping a few commands into the computer he checked on their progress. The ship was already on the correct heading and was now simply waiting for the go ahead to enter FTL flight. Flipping a switch, Royd opened the blast shields that covered the view ports, opening the room to a stunning view of the stars. Then tapping a few more commands into the console, he gave the computer permission to spin up the ship’s FTL drive.

Out side, the ship’s massive hull continued to glide along as the main engines slowly powered down to minimal thrust. Moments after, two large, upright disk like structures started to slowly extend out of either side of the rear of the hull. Once fully extended the disks in mechanisms started to glow blue with energy as the ship’s power plan diverted power from the engines to the FTL drive. The power continued to build for several minutes until the drives had stored enough energy to execute a jump into FTL flight.

Once he got the signal that the ship was ready to jump, Royd sat back and rested his hand on the execute key. Considering all of the possibilities that were now before him or rather soon would be, he summoned up the will to move his world, the ship to another. Pressing the key, he brought his hands up and rested his chin on then, watching silently out the windows as the stars seemed to bleed across the view ports and then vanish.
Outside the ship’s FTL drives flashed with a bright, white burst of energy that seemed to travel the length of the ship, consuming it. A moment later the Nightflyer was gone, at least from that area of space. The mammoth hull of the great ship was now traveling many times faster then the speed of light, cruising back into it’s home galaxy and towards Earth.

Watching as the stars streaked by, Royd couldn’t help but feel overjoyed that he was finally going to see the planet of his forbearers. However something else was not. The Computer elicited over the intercom was amounted to a jumble of mechanical whispers to the untrained ear. Royd however fully understood what the computer had said and rolled his eyes at the machine’s comments.
“Do not worry. I have taken every precaution.” he stated to the machine, drawing another round of hushed mechanical voices. “I have taken that into account as well. I will keep my suit on at all times. You have taught me well but it time I saw the worlds for my self.” he replied and looked to the console as new data started to scroll up.

Watching the data at the ship’s navigation system managed to get an exact fix on their position, Royd tapped in a few commands that would allow the computer to quickly pick a landing site near one of the major cities. As the ship exited FTL flight and the disk shaped pods retracted, returning power to the ship’s engines, Royd marveled at the blue/green sphere before him. While it wasn’t exactly as he was expecting because of the orange tinges and violent storms being caused by the dragon’s presence, it no less looked like a paradise to the young man. Looking to the computer screens, Royd could see the ship had already selected a landing zone just outside what the map was indicating was Hercule City.

Feeling the ship start to shake as the antigravity drives powered up and the engines ran up to power, Royd watched the information scroll by on the screens while the computer handled all the work. Within moments dust started to kick up all about the giant hull of the ship as he started to lift off. Once off the ground the landing legs retracted and the main engines fired, propelling the vessel forward.

As the Nightflyer climbed up out of Earth’s atmosphere Royd watched the stormy clouds and that accursed dragon go by the view ports. The huge ship made a fairly smooth climb to orbit, ascending approximately three hundred miles up into low orbit. While the navigation computer continued to work on the course to Icer, the antigravity drive was shut down and the FTL drive began to spin up.

Eventually the navigation computer came up with the coordinates of Icer and completed plotting a course to the planet. With the FTL drive still charging, the Nightflyer fired it’s main engines again, pulling out of Earth orbit and accelerating a sub-light speed on a heading for Icer. Once the ship had cleared the Earth’s gravitational field it would be free to make the jump into FTL flight but for now remained cruising at sub-light.

After a few more minutes the mammoth ship still gliding along at sub-light speed passed far enough away from Earth to make the FTL jump. Automatically the two disk shaped drive pods extended from the sides of the ship and started to glow with energy. Power diverted away from the main engines and fed into the FTL drive, building up the energy needed to make the jump.

Watching out the view ports, Royd sat back as the ship jumped into FTL flight and then rose from his seat. Now that the ship was generating a reduced gravitational field he felt much more comfortable. Picking up his cane, he headed back down the corridor and through the mirror doorway into the grand lounge. With navigation being handled by the computer, Royd was free to relax.

Making himself a snack first in the kitchen and then taking a seat on one of the comfortable black leather couches in the lunge, Royd ate and then laid back watching the stars streak by on the dominating ceiling display. Growing tired after his ordeal on Earth, Royd made himself more comfortable and started to drift off to sleep.

As Royd slept, the Nightflyer continued on it’s way, cruising across the stars towards Icer. Her size and relatively slow speed both sub and super luminal made the trip longer then it would take in most other craft. This however was of little importance unless someone was in a hurry.

Still napping while the ship flew on, Royd recovered fully from his exertions on Earth. Eventually he woke and headed back into the flight deck. It seemed his timing was perfect as just as he sat down, the great ship dropped out of FTL flight and entered the Icerian system. Transferring power back to the main engines and retracting the drive pods, the Nightflyer slowly cruised towards it’s destination.

Tapping a few commands into the console, Royd looked out the view ports as the ship approached Icer. Running a scan of the planet, the computer located a suitable landing zone near one of the major cities. However having access to the historical database, the computer was not happy about landing on the planet. A series of mechanical whispers came through the intercom speakers, expressing the computer’s concerns.
“Yes I am well aware of their reputation. Do not worry, your self defense lessons were not lost on me, I shall be fine.” Royd replied as he entered a few more commands into the console and then sat back.

As the huge ship approached the planet, it’s antigravity drives powered up and she decelerated out of orbit and into the atmosphere. Leveling out and having gained experience in the technique to flying in an atmosphere, the computer guided the ship down much more smoothly then it had at Earth. Leveling out a few thousand feet above the ground, the mammoth ship continued to decelerate and eventually came to a hover just outside the city. The landing legs deployed and moments later the giant ship touched down.

"Well... As for coordinates or planetary names... It gives coordinates, yes," Ace said. "There seems to be one at... Oh crap!" He slapped himself in the forehead. "I'll be right back, Royd!" He tossed the radar to the man. "Check it for yourself, I'm not good with that kidna stuff!" And then, he flickered out of sight.

Sitting up and catching the radar, Royd quirked an eyebrow somewhat surprised at Ace’s sudden exit. Even though he was already gone, the young man still replied. “If you wish…”
Looking back to the instrument, he examined the numbers indicated and although the coordinate system looked a bit different then the three hundred year old version the ship used, it was similar enough to be usable.

Meanwhile the ship continued it’s startup routine and within minutes the antigravity drives and main engines fired in concert, propelling the massive ship up through Icer’s atmosphere towards orbit. Standing back up as the ship ascended, Royd made his way to the large mirror that dominated the forward wall of the chamber. It slid open as expected and after a short walk down the dark, connecting passage he sat in the command chair and started to enter the coordinates provided into the navigation console.

Once he had finished entering the coordinate into the computer, the machine went to work translating them into the older system while Royd picked up his cane once more and headed back down the corridor into the lounge. The mirror door closed behind him and as he was sitting the computer elicited another series of hushed whispers.
“No I am quite sure it will be safe. Please continue working on the translation and tell me when you have the coordinates.” Royd replied to the computer while he placed the radar on the center table.

Reaching orbit and going through the procedures to shut down the antigravity drive and start up the FTL drive, the computer also mapped out the coordinates provided by the dragon radar and informed Royd as such in it’s standard hushed, mechanical voice. Laying back on the couch looking up at the artificial sky-scape, Royd nodded and replied to the computer.
“Thank you, bring the FTL drive online, plot a course and standby to make the jump please.” he stated responded.

Royd sat up again and was about to reply to Ace when the computer cut him off with a somewhat louder series of mechanical whispers. Furrowing his brow Royd shook his head and answered the machine first.
“It is perfectly fine. They are not here to harm me. They are my guests.” he explained to the computer. “Now that we have the jump coordinates please execute once the FTL drive is charged.” he added and stood up, not needing his cane as the Nightflyer had a substantially reduced gravity as compared to Earth.
“It’s good to see you again. Welcome aboard the Nightflyer.” Royd greeted Sedric.

“Well I wish I could give you a tour but according to the computer, the coordinates are actually close enough to make an instant jump with the FTL drive. So we’ll be there in just a few minutes. Anything further though and we would have had to do some cruising.” Royd commented even as the ship was preparing to make the jump.
Outside the FTL drive pods extended out of the ship and completed charging, in moments their customary bright flash of white light consumed the ship and deposited it in orbit over their destination world. The process was completely automated and within moments of the jump, the ship started to descend towards the planet surface. Power diverted from the FTL to the antigravity drive and minutes later the massive hull of the Nightflyer touched down on the planet surface.
